Residents of Unguwan Rogo and Unguwan Rimi communities in Jos North local government area of Plateau State have raised alarm over what they described as persistent attacks by armed robbers in the area.

Benue/Plateau Trust correspondent, who visited the communities, report that a resident, Adam Jibrin, was on January 8, 2020 shot dead during a midnight attack by armed robbers who had engaged in a house -to -house robbery.

It was gathered that the robbers had also on February 1, stormed the community and robbed residents of their money, phones and macheted one Adam Dan Madora who is currently receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos.

Malam Zubairu Shehu, the Chairman, Security Committee of Unguwan Rogo/Unguwan Rimi/Zinaria, told our correspondent that the gunmen often attack at midnight and carry out their nefarious operations without any intervention from the vigilante or law enforcement agencies.

Shehu appealed to the state government to deploy more security personnel especially the police to the affected areas in order to address the rising menace. He further emphasized the need to revisit some of the existing laws in the country by making significant reforms that would provide stiff penalties for whoever is found wanting of any form of criminality.

The Chairman also enjoined members of the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person or movement to the relevant security operatives.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Gabriel, said information available to him from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was that the incidents were not reported to the police.

However, our correspondent gathered from Dan Madora, who was injured as a result of an attack on Saturday, that Unguwan Rogo Police Division was aware of the incident, adding that the police in the area had used their vehicle to rush him and his friends to the hospital after the incident.
