President Goodluck Jonathan defeated General Muhammadu Buhari in Nasarawa State in the presidential contest with a 37,000 vote margin.
In the overall result announced by Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi, INEC Electoral Collation Officer in the state, the PDP presidential candidate polled 273,460, to beat his main challenger and APC candidate General Buhari, who polled 236,838 in the 13 local government areas of the state.
Nasarawa is the only state where General Buhari’s defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) won the governorship seat in 2011, with Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as the only CPC governor to seat in 2013 for the merger talk that gave birth to the APC.
The PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) secretary, Senator Walid Jibril, who is the highest ranking party officer in the state, described the win as “a statement about who is on ground in this state.”
