Jonathan: Nigeria needs more prayers to end terrorism

He said this yesterday at the commencement of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria held at the Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Abuja.
The president commended the bishops for their steadfastness in praying for the nation’s unity and survival, acknowledging that their prayers had kept the nation going in the face of the current security challenges.
He, however, charged them to increase their mediatory role as the moral conscience of Nigeria, saying abandoning the country at her critical moment would amount to a disservice to their father land.
“We need more prayers to end terrorism. With prayers and the measures put in place, we will surmount the challenges,” Jonathan said.
“Religious groups must mediate and not increase the tempo of events. I therefore urge the church to continue to pray for the survival and unity of the country. But like I have always observed, your prayers have, to a large extent, kept the country going even in the face of the ongoing security challenges being experienced in the country.”
Jonathan said: “if state governments partner with church organisations, there’ll be a resurge of moral standards because such partnership is a gateway to revamping education in the country.”
He said his administration was ready to partner with relevant religious bodies and other stakeholders to provide quality and functional education to the youth
