The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, lasted for over an hour.
Sheriff declined comments when State House journalists approached him after the meeting.
“Please, no comment, no comment”, the former governor simply said.
He headed for the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Brigadier-General Jones Arogbofa (rtd) where he joined a former military administrator of Lagos State, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd).
The president had earlier had a closed door meeting with Marwa.
Jonathan held the two separate meetings with Sheriff and Marwa three days after the Federal Government and the Boko Haram terrorist group were reported to have reached a ceasefire agreement.
Sources hinted that the president’s meeting with Sheriff might not be unconnected with the ceasefire deal.
