President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated the board of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, who inaugurated the board at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Jonathan’s behalf, charged its members to surpass previous standards on Hajj operations.
The vice president noted that they were chosen based on their wealth of experience and diligence.
“I charge the new members to be steadfast in their responsibilities by not only meeting the high expectations of the Muslim Ummah on Hajj operations, but by surpassing such expectations by discharging their duties diligently and to the best of their ability and conscience”, he said.
He commended NAHCON for having improved the standards of Hajj operation in Nigeria since its inception in 2007.
“Our pilgrims now enjoy better accommodation and better facilities during Hajj operations. The management of the Hajj operations has been greatly enhanced to face contemporary challenges and to accommodate the increasing number of intending pilgrims that apply annually for this spiritual obligation”, Sambo said.
The chairman of the board, Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed, thanked Jonathan and Sambo for giving them the opportunity to serve the nation.
He pledged their commitment to living up to expectation of all the stakeholders, especially pilgrims.
The members of the board are Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed, Yusuf Adebayo Ibrahim, Abdullahi Modibbo Saleh, Ibrahim Ezeani, Adeyemi Ademola Fuad, Enenwary Zikey, Aisha Maidubu Mohammed and Danjuma Salihu Usman. The ninth member, Hajiya Ramatu Bala Usman, is still awaiting the National Assembly confirmation.
