Join the fight against corruption, NHRC tells women

The acting Executive Secretary NHRC, Mrs. Oti Ovrawah, has called on Nigerian Women to join the fight against corruption so as to ensure that people enjoyed their human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Mrs. Ovrawah who made this call on the eve of the International Women’s Day celebration noted that corruption was responsible for gross human rights violation everywhere in the world and that it adversely affected women, children and the less privileged members of the society the most.

She called on everyone to shun discrimination against women and girls saying that equality for women was progress for all.

She noted that countries with higher level of gender equality have higher economic growth, stressing that if women were given the opportunity to serve in government they would be able to promote peace and stability in the country.

Mrs. Ovrawah called on government to commit to women’s and the girl child’s rights so that they could live free from violence in all circumstances and have equal say in decision making that affects their lives.
