Akpabio has threatened legal action against Hundeyin if the publication is not retracted within 14 days and an apology offered.

However, Hundeyin has replied by requesting that Airtel and MTN be authorized to release the voice note of the conversation between the alleged suspects instead of threatening him with lawsuits, saying it would end the matter.
In a letter dated Wednesday, May 12, 2021 addressed to the author of the article through BusinessDay Media organisation and signed by Akpabio’s lawyer, Otobong Inyang Esq, the minister had denied the publication that he and his wife, Unoma Akpabio, had been involved in the rape and eventual death of Umoren.
Akpabio stated that the publication which was not true, gave the impression that he and his wife were accomplices in Umoren’s death.
