Jigawa to provide malaria prevention medicines for children

Following high cases of malaria, the Jigawa State government in collaboration with Malaria Consortium, will immunize children under the ages of three to 59 months.

The Deputy Director of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Badamasi Musa, made this known yesterday during a state focussed media roundtable meeting organized by the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) in Dutse.

He said the exercise would be carried out under the Seasonal Malaria Chemo Prevention programme, adding that the first dose of the immunization would be administered under Direct Observe Therapy (DOT).

In his remarks, the Jigawa State Programme officer of ACOMIN, Auwal Ibrahim, said they were in the state for mitigation of the spread of malaria, adding that their intervention was necessary to check the disease in the state.
