Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has commenced the distribution of a $250,000 World Bank loan to farmers in the state as part of the Argo-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony Tuesday in Dutse, the state capital, Governor Namadi hailed the World Bank intervention as a positive step that aligns with his government’s 12-point agenda.
Dr Nura Ibrahim, the state’s Commissioner for Environment, said the loan was designed to support rural community/farmer groups in investing in climate-smart rain-fed crops.
He said each eligible farmers’ group, comprising 10-25 beneficiaries, will receive $25,000, with a target of 2,800 groups in the state.
