The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Representative Timothy Golu, says that members of the House seeking for suspension of Representative Abdulmumin Jibrin for ridiculing the House will forgive him “if he shows remorse and apologises to the House and Nigerians.”
The House, Wednesday, during a rowdy session, referred the matter of the corruption allegations raised by Jibrin against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers to the committee on ethics and privileges.
It was gathered that Jibrin could be suspended based on his actions.
But Golu (PDP, Plateau) said: “If Jibrin shows remorse and apologises to the House, I can assure you that members will forgive him. We’re all human beings, but he has to tell Nigerians that all that he said were lies. I advise him to quickly do that.
“The display by most of us today (yesterday), was a natural thing to show our support for Dogara. No single member had any issue with the speaker. What happened was a disappointment to Jibrin. He only had five members behind him.
“We had expected Jibrin to first report the matter to the House and if nothing was done, he could look elsewhere. But he didn’t do that. If he’s found guilty, he’ll face what the rules of the House says. He has already tarnished the image of the House.”
