Tailors in Jere Local Government Area, Borno State, pledged to use modern tailoring and fashion designing machines to create more loyal customers.

They said modern machines make their work easier and faster as well as reduce disagreements with customers.

Representative of the tailors, Muhammed Abba, made the remarks shortly after the distribution of 400 sewing and fashion designing machines to local tailors and fashion designers by the Member Representing Jere Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Satomi Ahmed, in Maiduguri yesterday. He said the new machines, given to them free of charge, will certainly improve their designing skills and attract more customers.

“The new modern designing and tailoring machines are faster, which enables us to do more garments per day and reduce unnecessary conflicts with customers,” he said.

Another female designer said the micro enterprises which hitherto have insufficient capital to grow, will use the new machines to improve production.

In his remarks, Hon. Ahmed said the 400 machines were distributed to boost micro enterprises and urged each of the beneficiaries to train at least two youths in tailoring and designing skills.

He said 25 of the beneficiaries were youths trained in tailoring skills by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

He said 500 machines were earlier shared to his constituents last year and that rice farmers in Zabarmari village will receive 250 new milling machines in a little while.

He said a rice production factory has been established in Jere Local Government with the capacity to process the rice produced in the area.
