The Jemibewon International Academy (JIA), a co-education full boarding secondary school co-founded by Retired Gen. David Jemibewon and his wife, Chief Modupe Ajayi Jemibewon, has graduated its pioneer students with outstanding academic performance in their external examinations.

The school, which is situated on a 12-hectare of land on the Kabba-Ilorin highway, Iyah-Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was formally opened and dedicated on July 20, 2012 by the Catholic Bishop of Lokoja Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Martin Olorunmolu.

Parents, guardians and well-wishers who turned up for the graduation ceremony of the pioneer class of the institution said they were thrilled and impressed by the performance of the students both in their WAEC and JAMB-UTME.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that a total of 11 pioneer students of the school who graduated made 100% credit pass in their WAEC exams and scored above 200 points in their UTME.

The proprietor of the academy, Gen. Jemibewon, (retired) who expressed delight over the outstanding performance of the students and their good conduct, raised concerns over the low enrolment at the school presently.

“All has not been rosy. They are some of the graduating students whose parents have not paid anything in the last two years because of the economic reality.

“And because it is not the fault of the children, we decided to let them continue because of the passion we have for them.

“I hope these parents will pay. Our enrolment is very low and we wish that if we are impressed with what we have seen, let’s spread the news. We know our fees are a bit higher than other schools around here but we are also having proficient results”, he said.

On her part,  Mrs Modupe Jemibewon, urged the graduating students to “keep the torch shining bright” and should not forget their alma mater.

The  former Head boy of the school, Mustapha Habeeb and the overall best graduating student, Abdulsalam Falilat Abiola, in their separate remarks thanked the school for impacting their lives positively and promised not to let the proprietor and their teachers down.
