Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old man, Bisi Omoniyi, for allegedly killing a 50-year-old rival at the woman friend’s house.
The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police in Owode Egbado Divisional Headquarters that a young man has matcheted another man to death in Ajilete town in Yewa North Local Government Area.
The Police’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Sunday, in Abeokuta, that following the distress call, the DPO Owode Egbado, CSP Olabisi Elebute, quickly mobilized the divisional patrol team to the scene and arrested the suspect.
He said the victim was taken to the hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Oyeyemi said preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Akinyemi Wahab Alani, a.k.a Ajiolopon, had visited his mistress, one Kafayat Sakariyau, to pass a night at Ajilete.
He explained that the suspect, befriending the same woman, had also visited her house to pass a night before he was denied entry.
Oyeyemi said the suspect, who came from the Ibasa area of Oke Odan, forced his way into the woman’s room and met the deceased “in a position the suspect described as unacceptable to him.”
This, according to the Police PRO, led to a fight between them and in the process the suspect picked a cutlass in the room and matcheted the victim to death.
“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the general hospital’s mortuary for autopsy, while the woman in the center of the crisis has since fled,” he said.
