The Joint Chamber International (JCIA), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated delivery kits and insecticide mosquito treated nets to pregnant women in Paikon-Kore community of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja.
The national president of JCIA, Mr. Olatunji Oyeyemi, while presenting the items, said the organisation works with government and communities as well as civil society organisations to support women to improve their health.
The president of JCIA in the FCT, Mr. Orimoloye Oluwaseyi, said the organisation had previously worked in five communities in Kuje in collaboration with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office in the territory.
“So we are trying to support the whole world on how to reduce maternal mortality rate in the country, and by doing so, we look at it by starting from our local communities where some pregnant housewives can’t even afford N2,000 delivery kits,” he said.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, commended the organisation for bringing succour to them. She said the gesture would go a long way in reducing challenges most housewives faced during delivery.
“And apart from the free ante-natal, any time I am going to the hospital, I always find it difficult to get money to buy drugs whenever the doctor prescribes any. So I am very happy with the support of this organisation,” she said.
