Former Plateau State governor, Senator Jonah Jang, has denied a report credited to him asking Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign and hand over to his rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 2023 governorship election, Nentawe Yilwatda.

A publication (not by Daily Trust) on Wednesday under the heading “Jang Advises Mutfwang to Resign and Hand over to APC’s Nentawe Yilwatda”, was widely circulated in the social media.

The report has been causing a lot of stir not only in the social media space, but also in the political landscape of Plateau State, especially after the Court of Appeal last Sunday sacked Mutfwang and asked INEC to issue the certificate of return to Yilwatda.

But in a swift reaction to the publication, Jang, who is the leader of the PDP in the state, denied the publication, saying the entire write-up was completely false and only existed in the writer’s imagination.

In a statement by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang also said they were aware of devilish attempts to compromise the judiciary by forces of darkness who are bent on subverting the will of the Plateau people who freely voted for PDP.

“Senator Jonah Jang, like other well-meaning lovers of democracy, is at a complete loss as to why the Court of Appeal took a decision that contradicts the 2023 Electoral Act and other decided cases by the Supreme Court. He believes that the judgement of Sunday, 18th November, is a total miscarriage of justice, and as a firm believer in the judiciary, Senator Jang holds the belief that the highest court of the land will reverse this great injustice,” the statement partly read.
