The Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA) has sensitized women on the importance of health insurance to the health and survival of their families stressing that poor information on the scheme has hindered Northern women from accessing immediate healthcare services.
President of JMA, Hajiya Rabi Saulawa, said women were often left behind due to lack of information, adding that the sensitization was to engage women and create awareness so that they can benefit from the health insurance scheme put in place by the Kaduna State government.
Saulawa said women have more health problems but were poorly informed on the benefits of health insurance schemes but hoped that with sensitization and enrolment into the scheme, women can access better and immediate healthcare services.
She urged women to take advantage of the opportunity to register themselves and their families so that they can access health care whenever they needed it.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Agency (KADCHMA), Suleiman Mustapha, disclosed that individual premium for health insurance at the agency costs N10,600 annually while the family premium costs N57, 000 annually.
He decried the increasing rise in maternal and child mortality due to lack of health insurance and urged women to, as a matter of urgency, register for the scheme.
