Iwuanyanwu: Why I’m quitting politics at 79

Elder statesmen and a member of the Board of Trustees of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, says he is quitting partisan politics.

The elder statesman said this in Owerri, Imo State capital, while addressing journalists on the occasion of his 79th birthday.

He said he is dedicating his life to the service of Imo people.

Iwuanyanwu, a three-time presidential aspirant, told journalists that he considers his age the right time to quit the stage and leave the arena for the younger generation.

While bemoaning that corruption was still endemic in Nigeria’s body politics, he counselled the younger generation to shun corruption they want to go far in politics.

He said, “I consider my age the right time to quit politics. I will henceforth play the role of elder statesman and head of the elders’ council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Today, it pleases the Lord that I mark my 79th birthday in sound health, strength and vitality. It is indeed the amazing grace of God that has kept me alive all these years and has propelled me towards making great achievements in various spheres of human endeavour.”

Iwuanyanwu, who said that he has made his marks in politics, engineering, publishing, shipping sports, banking, Aviation, agriculture, philanthropy, expressed gratitude to God for keeping him alive.
