The Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Garba Dambatta, has said that women deserve to be celebrated throughout the year in view of the tremendous contribution they give toward development of the country.
He disclosed this at a public lecture in Kano on Thursday to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, organised by Kano Civil Society Forum, in collaboration with Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies.

Dambatta also said so far, NCC has trained a lot of women on digital entrepreneurship, including how to develop applications to market their small-scale businesses.
According to him, the training had given them the opportunity to develop apps to sell their products and services using the knowledge they acquired during the sessions.
The Executive Vice Chairman also disposed that a set of computer and other accessories were given to the beneficiaries, aimed at using the equipment to improve their socioeconomic life.
He added that the sum of N20,000 grant was also disbursed to the beneficiaries as a startup capital.
The EVC also said at his commission, women have been enjoying great consideration, disclosing that the commission have three women Directors.
Dambatta disclosed that women had constituted a large percentage of workforce in the NCC, adding that “they get all the protection they deserve and give them a chance for contribution towards the progress of the Commission.”
“I heartly congratulate women because they deserve to be congratulated, appreciated and applauded. They are everywhere. In my commission, NCC, we have three directors.
“A large parentage of workforce in NCC is women.They get all the protection they deserve and give them a chance for contribution towards the progress of the Commission. I am a very strong believer in the tremendous potentiality of women to hold positions,” Dambatta added.
In his keynote address, the President of Kano Civil Society Forum, Amb. Ibrahim A. Waiya, said the occasion was organised to recognise some women who contribute towards promoting women and children, and to foster their socio-economic and political development in the society.
He said the campaign tagged “women for women group” is not centered on political sentiment or party affiliation but an expanded advocacy platform which shall be geared towards articulating and setting agenda for women and children’s socio-economic, career building and political development in the state.
