The Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT chapter, Comrade Bunmi Haruna, has called on sports federations and parastatals to provide an enabling environment for the inclusion of more women in sports governance in Nigeria.

Bunmi made the call during a football competition played in Abuja on Tuesday to commemorate the 2022 International Women’s Day Celebration.

“We are celebrating all women across the world and particularly Nigerian women, sports journalists for their immense contributions towards sports and national development.

“The contributions of women to the development of sports in Nigeria is well documented and with this year’s theme; ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ it feels right to call on the government, sports federations and parastatals to provide enabling environment for more women to participate in sports governance in Nigeria.

“Women have earned this and I believe they just need the support and enabling environment to further help our sports and propel Nigeria to greater heights.

“Cindy Parlow Cone recently won re-election as U.S. Soccer Federation president, who says that can’t happen in Nigeria?” Bunmi charged.
