I’ve not been impeached – Shiroro LGA chairman – Chukuba

The Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state, Comrade Suleiman Dauda Chukuba, has said that he is still in charge as the council boss despite his purported impeachment.

It would be recalled that the legislators from the LGA on Tuesday voted for the impeachment of the chairman over allegations of misappropriation of the council’s internally generated revenue without their approval.

The impeachment was carried out through the popular votes of eleven out fourteen councillors of the LGA during their sitting at Kuta, the headquarters of the council.

Chukuba while reacting to the allegations said the insecurity challenges facing the council was as a result of bandit attacks that made it difficult to generate revenue.

He said no letter had been served on him either for his impeachment or suspension as being insinuated in some quarters by the legislators.

“The whole world knows that Shiroro Local Government has been faced with armed bandit attacks for the past seven years and the last two years have been worst. Most of our markets where we generate revenue have been locked as the majority of the farmers are now displaced from their villages. So, I don’t know where they came up with such an allegation.

“On the issue N7million approval for workshop for the legislators, yes, there was approval but there was no money to carry it out and when we decided to conduct it, they all came to the venue and left on the first day, saying they are no longer interested without any reason,” Chukuba said.

Also speaking, the Council Secretary, Mr Adamu Kefas said nobody had informed him of any matter against the chairman not to talk of sending any letter regarding impeachment or suspension.

Kefas dismissed the allegations against the chairman as “untrue” as he could not singlehandedly withdraw money without proper approval by the legislators.
