A former Flying Eagles midfield maestro, Uche Onwuasonya has distanced himself from reports linking him with Wikki Tourists as he said there is absolutely no reason for him to dump the reigning NPFL Champions.
Reacting to reports that he would soon depart Jos to join the ‘Bauchi Elephants’, the player who scored seven goals for Plateau United in the aborted 2020 NPFL season reiterated that he is focused on winning more laurels with his present club.
The former Kwara United player said as much as he admires Wikki Tourists and their manager, it will be foolish for him to deny himself the opportunity to feature in the prestigious CAF Champions League.
“I am not surprised by reports linking me with Wikki Tourists. Once the transfer window is open, such speculations become rife.
“And it is not strange for good players to be mentioned in transfer stories. But I have no intention to leave Plateau United. As a matter of fact, such reports are based on imagination.
“I am enjoying myself in Plateau United where we have one of the best coaches in the NPFL. Secondly, we have earned for ourselves a place in next year’s CAF Champions League. That is where the best players on the continent meet and I want to be there.
“Jos is a city I love as I have made good friends on and off the field. So why would I just feel like leaving?. The fans too have been fantastic and accommodating, as they always back the team at matches.
“My plan next season is to continue from where I stopped, rediscover my goal scoring boots and help Plateau United win big this season,” he said.
