It’s improper for Kano assembly to investigate itself — Dan Agundi

A member of Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, has kicked against the decision of the house to investigate the N100 million bribe allegation levelled against its former speaker and the house.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Dan Agundi, from Kano Municipal Local Government, said it was improper for the house to investigate itself.

He argued that since the allegation was levelled against a former Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and the entire house, then the matter should be referred to either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

He said, “The house should not investigate the matter since it is also part of the allegation. I am of the view that the matter be taken to either EFCC or ICPC for proper investigation.”

Dan Agundi explained that nobody should expect proper investigation of the matter from the people that were part and parcel of the allegation they were to investigate.

“What are they going to investigate? Can they do justice to the matter? What recommendations can they apportion to the culprits? I doubt much if the committee will do justice to the matter. To be honest with you, the arrangement does not make any sense to me,” he said.

Dan Agundi said he had made his stand clear during the house sitting on Monday but other members of the house failed to understand his point.
