Two robbery suspects arrested by policemen attached to Aswani Police Station while trying to rob commuters held in traffic have confessed that it is easier to rob people in traffic than to embark on breaking into houses.

The suspects, Marshal Sunday (24) and Amaechi Obi (39), were arrested on May 22.

The suspects, in their confessional statements to the police, admitted dispossessing members of the public of their valuables in traffic.

One of them, Sunday, allegedly told a team of police interrogators that, “It is very easy to rob people in traffic. Just show them a gun, whether a plastic gun or real one, they will hand over their belongings to you.

“They don’t want to sustain any wounds and are afraid to die.”

Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said they were sighted around 5am at Five Star bus stop along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway in a mini-bus also known as Korope.

Hundeyin said the officers flagged down the unregistered mini-bus after suspecting that the occupants were up to mischief, and that after a thorough search, a pistol and three rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition were found in the vehicle.

He further said, “Also found with them were one Fidelity Bank ATM card and one mobile phone. While two of the three occupants were arrested, the third escaped.

“Investigations have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and arraign them in court.”
