It’s unfortunate Kano lost the chance to have film village, says filmmaker Ahlan

Kannywood veteran actor and film producer, Aminu Sharif Ahlan, says it is unfortunate that Kano State lost the chance to have a film village that will uplift Kannywood as an entity and the entire livelihood of the people of the state.

The actor expressed regrets that the people of Kano failed to understand what a film village stands for.

Speaking at the Kannywood annual award night, Ahlan, who is also the coordinator of the event said the issue of establishing a film village for the industry is an issue that has drawn attention and has created negative public commentaries in the state.

He said, “When you start talking about a film village, that is when clerics and Mr-Know-it all will start lamenting; citing cultural and religious reasons. Many countries are creating film villages to make people productive, increase employment and ease means of livelihood. But sadly, the perception of our people is that a film village is a place like a camp where adultery will be promoted. We don’t have time for all that. People should try to understand us.”(sic)

He explained that it is worrisome that despite being a very vast industry, Kannywood isn’t accommodated by big platforms like Netflix because the industry is yet to meet its standard due to lack of equipment.

During the award ceremony, Kannywood honoured some politicians among which is the Kano state gubernatorial aspirant Abdulhamid A. Zaura known as A A Zaura.
