The acting Director of Sports in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Luka Istifanus, has expressed satisfaction with Team FCT’s performance at the just concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin.
At the end of the Games, FCT won 10 gold, 9 silver and 17 bronze for a total of 36 medals to finish 7th out of 36 states that featured in the Games.
The Federal Capital Territory attended the Games with 65 athletes who featured in 18 sporting events.
The Head, Media and Communication Unit of the FCT Sports Department, Vivian Onubogu, quoted the Director as saying the FCT took part in only 18 sports because of logistics and the need to compete in only events where they were sure of medals.
“I am completely satisfied with the performance of our athletes. They didn’t disappoint us. Finishing seventh out of 37 is no mean achievement.
“We are going to increase the number of sports FCT will participate in at the next National Youth Games. We are also committed to grooming and nurturing these athletes that made us proud in Ilorin,” he said.
Istifanus also said this would be achieved by continuous coaching and providing the enabling environment for the budding athletes to excel.
