Islamic groups advocate budgetary allocation for cemeteries’ upkeep

Some Islamic organizations under the auspices of Hijrah Committee have advocated for budgetary allocation for the upkeep of cemeteries across Sokoto state.

Donating sanitary facilities and fire woods to some cemeteries, leader of the groups, Malam Nura Attajiri, lamented the dilapidated condition of the places which he described as the final resting place for every human being.

“We are not happy with the way we see them. They are overtaken by grasses with some of the graves collapsing and the workers are not being properly taking care of despite the hazardous nature of their job,” he said

He also advised that committees should be formed by the state government to look after cemeteries across the state.

He added that the workers should be trained on how to handle corpses during burial to avoid infection.

The groups also donated fruits, eggs and other food items to an orphanage home as well the VVF and other patients, praying Allah to grant them quick recovery.

Attajiri said the visits were part of the activities lined up to mark the new Islamic calender.
