Ishaq’s brace keeps Rivers United on top, Remo hold Pillars

Rivers United maintained their unbeaten run in the ongoing NPFL season as Ishaq Rafiu’s brace earned the ‘Pride of Rivers’ a well deserved 2-1 victory over Dakkada in their week 10 match at the Adokiye Amaesimaka stadium Port-Harcourt.

Rafiu opened the scoring for Rivers United in the 33rd minute but Dakkada’s Emmanuel Ayaosi found the back of the net from a well taken shot to level the scores for his side before the break.

Rafiu then scored the winning goal and his ninth of the season from the spot in the 61st minute to ensure victory for Rivers United who amassed 22 points to go two points clear at the top.

Remo Stars also kept their unbeaten run intact as they forced Kano Pillars to a 0-0 draw in Kaduna to retain the second position with 20 points.

Meanwhile, teen sensation, Mohammed Shammasu, is proving to be Nasarawa United’s super-sub as he came off the bench to finish off Enyimba at the death in the 2-1 victory

Enyimba took an early lead when Victor Mbaoma scored the opener in the 13th minute before Tolulope Oluwole levelled the scores five minutes later for Nasarawa United.

Again, young Shammasu got the winner in the third of the five minutes added time to ensure Enyimba suffered the same fate with Katsina United who fell victim to his killer instinct in their week 8 fixture with Nasarawa United.

In Ibadan, it rained goals for 3SC who walloped miserable Heartland 4-0. Daniel Kolawole scored the opener in the 52nd minute, Taofeeq Malomo 77th, Ayo Adejubu 85 and Rafiu Raheem 90th minute.

Abia Warriors were also in an imperious form as they trounced visiting Wikki Tourists 3-0 following a Valentine Odoh’s brace in the 37th, 65th minute and Godwin Obaje’s header in the 73rd minute.

In Makurdi, Lobi Stars fought back to draw 1-1 with Niger Tornadoes, reigning champions Akwa United were forced to a 1-1 draw by Kwara United, just as Mustapha Salisu’s goal for Katsina United dimmed Sunshine stars 1-0 in Katsina.

The remaining week 10 fixture between Gombe United and MFM will be held today at the Pantami stadium Gombe.
