ISA explains why baseball activities yet to begin in Kwara

The International Sports Association (ISA) has identified lack of necessary equipment and the yet to be finalised agreement with the University of Ilorin in Kwara State as responsible for the delay in the take off of the project.

ISA’s President, Jason Alan Charles, a US citizen who visited Kwara State in May, had said the association would build a sports academy in Ilorin to commence the revival of baseball and softball in the country.

The project was expected to kick off in August.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Ilorin, the Director of ISA, Africa and Europe, Temitayo Abolarin attributed the delay to lack of the necessary equipment in the state among other issues.

“We are making progress on the building of our academy and installation of facilities within and outside Kwara State.

“We have commenced work at the University of Ilorin venue of our academy in Kwara State and we are going into the second phase.

“What slowed us down was that we couldn’t get a tilling machine in the whole of Kwara State to till the site. This is very sad. We have to go to RCCC construction in Oshogbo which took some time.

“Aside that, ISA and the University of Ilorin have to agree on the design of the place to tally with the structure of the University. And remember, we came in around April/May which was the rainy season in Kwara. So what delayed it was not funding.

Abolarin also said the international body is “seeking for partnership from government and individuals to develop sports in Kwara and Nigeria”.
