Is Potiskum turning into a drug jungle?

It is very sad how the youths in Potiskum LGA have succumbed to excessive drug abuse and addiction  ignoring its danger to their well-being.

The increase in drug abuse has become a serious issue that needs urgent consideration, and drastic action.

The people of the area are known for their enterprise and pursuit for education. The area has been the mainstay of the state’s economy in terms of revenue generation, while the youths are known for their dedication to pursuit of knowledge.

But on the other hand, the locality is enveloped with thousands of youths who indulge in drug abuse. They hardly work and where they do they spend the money on drugs.

It is, therefore, pertinent to draw the attention of the Yobe State government and public agencies with the responsibility of fighting drug abuse to immediately intervene to curb the menace.

One of the ways is for the government to create more job opportunities for the youth in order to engage them.

It can support them with funds to raise small businesses and educate them on the dangers of drug abuse. Providing job opportunities will surely remove most of these helpless youths from the unfortunate acts.

The government should assist those who want to go to school. It is observed that many dropped out of school because of their inability to get support.

Agencies in charge of controlling drug abuse and illegal consumption should stand firm  and conduct raids to arrest those engaged in the sale and consumption of drugs in the state.
