Irate fans abort Pillars, Akwa Utd top of the table clash

Kano Pillars were denied the opportunity of returning to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League as irate fans believed to be their supporters disrupted the week 27 top of the table clash with leaders, Akwa United at the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna.

The highly explosive match which had Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa in the thick of things for Pillars was abandoned after Nyima Nwagua’s goal in the seventh minute of second half added time was ruled out for offside.

Following the cancellation of the goal, the angry fans invaded the pitch, leaving the match officials with no option than to halt proceedings.

Consequently, Akwa United remained on top of the table with 49 points pending the League Management Company’s decision on the abandoned match with Kano Pillars.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United who fought hard to defeat neighbours, Plateau United 2-0 in Lafia have moved to the second position on the table.

Although they have the same 48 points with Kano Pillars, the ‘Solid miners’ have superior goal difference of plus 11.

Wikki, Rangers, Heartland, Dakkada end winless run

In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists halted their winless run as they survived FC IfeanyUbah’s second half rally to win 4-3 with ex-junior international, Nazifi Yahaya hitting his first hat-trick of the season for the ‘Bauchi elephants’.

It also rained goals in Enugu and Katsina where Rangers thumped Sunshine Stars 4-1 and Katsina United put behind their recent poor results to beat Enyimba 3-1.

There was a big upset in Gombe where relegation bound Adamawa United defeated Rivers United 2-0 for their third victory of the season just as Fatai Abdullahi and Paul Samson scored a goal each in Abia Warriors 2-0 win over Lobi Stars in Aba.

It took a 77th minute penalty converted by Chris Nwaeze for Kwara United to beat MFM 1-0 in Ilorin while Dakkada recorded the only away win in Ozoro where they defeated Warri Wolves 1-0 courtesy of Kareem Abdoulaye’s goal in the 61st minute.

In Okigwe, Heartland piped Jigawa Golden Stars 2-1 after Chukwudi Nwaodi and Emeka Atuloma scored a goal each (2nd and 26th minute) for the host before Samuel Stone reduced the deficit for his side in the 34th minute.
