IPPIS: FG, ASUU resume talks

The representatives of the federal government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are expected to reconvene late Wednesday and continue their suspended discussions on how to resolve the ongoing strike action in tertiary institutions across the country.

The strike, occasioned by the disagreement between the two parties on the use of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), funding for revitalization of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), Salary Shortfall, among others, has paralysed academic activities.

Charles Akpan, the spokesperson of the ministry of Labour and Employment, in an invitation sent to journalists, disclosed that the meeting, which was adjourned last week, have been rescheduled for Wednesday.

It would be recalled that the university teachers have been at loggerheads with the government over its directive to ASUU members to enrol on the platform before their salaries could be paid.

ASUU has presented what it called University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), which would serve as an alternative to IPPIS but the government said it is still carrying out an integrity test on the new platform.
