Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commended the governors of South East and South South over their recent meeting in Enugu, describing it as a clear demonstration of the political office holders to respond to the age long divide and conquer strategies of the North.
The group noted that the governors’ meeting, which it said is the first time in nearly 50 years, has earned the respect of IPOB, expressing optimism that the move would be sustained and strengthened towards deepening the ancient brotherhood and relationships among the region.
in a statement issued yesterday by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful said restricting Biafra restoration project and IPOB activities to only the 5 Igbo speaking South East States is a misconception.
"We the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leadership worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to congratulate the governors of South East and South South for summoning the courage to sit together as one family for the first time in nearly 50 years.
"The choice of Enugu as the venue for this inaugural meeting is not only historically significant but also commendable because all governors of the Hausa Fulani controlled Arewa geo-political zones meet in Kaduna to strategise on a regular basis, being that Kaduna remains to this day, the capital of the old Northern Region.
"This South East and South South Governors Meeting, is a clear demonstration that political office holders are beginning to respond appropriately to the age long divide and conquer strategies of the North, which is responsible for the absence of strategic regional planning across states in the old Eastern region.
"For making this bold move, which we gathered was vehemently opposed by the born to rule Hausa Fulani core North, they have individually and collectively earned the respect of IPOB in this specific regard. We pray and hope they continue this process of strengthening and deepening the ancient brotherhood and relationships which sustained us as independent nations bound together by common culture and value systems for over 5000 years before the divisive tendencies of British colonialism destroyed it.
The group which accused Imo state of being less devoted to the course of Biafra restoration than other Igbo speaking South East States, said Bayelsa which is not part of the states in the South East is more devoted to the Biafra.
It called on other ethnic nationalities wishing to become part of Biafra to demonstrate their willingness via the ballot box.
"Biafra comprises both South East and South South excluding Benin. However, Bini and every other ethnic nationality wishing to become part of Biafra must demonstrate their willingness via the ballot box. Biafra is a coalition of willing ethnic nationalities as nobody or group will be forced to join without the people willingly voting in a referendum to join the union.
