Iorfa tips Eagles for World Cup glory

Speaking in a telephone interview with Trustsports, Iorfa who was noted for his speed and goal scoring prowess at BCC Lions, Abiola Babes and Ranchers Bees, said with what he saw of the players against North Korea, he was full of confidence that the Eagles will fly high in South Africa.

The Eagles defeated North Koreas 3-1 in their last pre-World Cup friendly played at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, north of Johannesburg with goals from Yakubu Ayegbeni, Obinna Nsofor and Obafemi Martins.

It was Lagerback’s first win in charge as Nigeria’s Coach, having drawn 0-0 with Saudi Arabia and 1-1 with Colombia in the first two matches.

Iorfa, who praised the team’s attacking line and midfield, however said much needs to be done in the defense before hostilities resume at the World Cup proper.

He added that as the tournament gets underway, the boys will continue to blend and post excellent performance.

“I was impressed with the boys yesterday, they have improved tremendously after their goalless draw against Saudi Arabia in the first warm-up match, so I have no doubt in my mind that they will excel at the World Cup.

“The attack was mobile and the midfield has also improved greatly. The only area I have concern is the defence where more work needs to be done before the World Cup starts”, the former BCC Lions of Gboko star noted.

He dismissed fears that Nigeria will be demolished by Argentina in today’s Group B opener, saying Lagerback has tremendously changed the team to one that will challenge for the title in South Africa.
