Iorfa thanks Alia as he bows out of Lobi Stars

A former Nigerian international and immediate past Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars FC Makurdi, Dominic Iorfa, has sent a farewell message to the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, and other football stakeholders in the state to thank them for the opportunity to serve the club.

On Saturday, September 7, the Benue State governor who returned the club to the direct supervision of the state Sports Council constituted a six-man board under the chairman of the Director of Sports, Dr. Philiph Nongu, effectively ending the second stint of Iorfa as the CEO of the club.

In his farewell address released yesterday, Iorfa said “Let me on behalf of my humble self, my family and the entire management of Lobi Stars FC appreciate our sports loving Governor, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, PhD, for the confidence and trust he reposed on me despite some mounted pressures.

“Let me also humbly thank the good people of the state, my players, officials, supporters and fans of the club for their wonderful show of love and co-operation during the period.

“I must say that my second coming was a unanimous decision by the people for me to come and rescue the club from the mud of relegation, which by the special grace of God we succeeded, thereafter we consolidated the team to finish amongst the top best 5 in the league despite playing all our matches away from home.

“This coming season, we have made adequate preparation for the league by first winning the Gusau/Ahlan Preseason tournament in Jos and were set for the league opening game against Akwa United FC before our dissolution.”

Iorfa, therefore, pledged to continue to support Lobi Stars in their future endeavours.

The former Super Eagles striker said history will continue to bear witness for the selfless sacrifices he made in the past for the progress of the club.

Meanwhile, Iorfa on Sunday handed over the players of Lobi Stars to the new board as they prepare for the opening match of the 2024/2025 NPFL season against Akwa United today in Lafia.
