The newly appointed Vice-chairman of Lobi Stars, Mr. Dominic Iorfa, has lauded the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ioraer Ortom, his Deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Ijohor (SAN), and the entire people of the state for finding him worthy of the appointment.
In the same vein, the former Nigerian international extended his appreciation to members of the Benue State Executive Council, the Chairman of Benue State Football Association and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Margret Icheen, and all other relevant football stakeholders in the state for believing in his capacity to rescue Lobi Stars from relegation.
The statement released this afternoon by the Head of Media Department of Lobi Stars, Emmanuel Ujah, also quoted Iorfa as expressing profound appreciation to the present and former players of the club for their warm reception.
“I want to first and foremost extend my sincere appreciation to the sports loving governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, his amiable wife, Dr. Eunice Ortom, the Chairman of Lobi Stars and Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ijohor and members of the Benue State Executive Council for their unflinching belief in my ability to carry out this assignment.
“It is no doubt a daunting task but I believe that by the special grace of God and the unwavering support from the government, I will deliver on the mandate given to me.
“It is also pertinent to mention that after I was introduced to the players, I had an interactive session with them and I can confidently say that their body language was enough motivation. Clearly, they are enthusiastic and eager to give me a chance to lead them to the Promised Land.
“Since I have no monopoly of knowledge, I am open to useful advice that can help me in addressing some of the problems that have bedevilled our darling club,” the statement reads in part.
Iorfa was re-appointed on Monday, March 21 by the Benue State government after the former holder of the office, Emmanuel Tama Aondofa, tendered his resignation following Lobi Stars’ dwindling fortunes in the ongoing NPFL season.
The former Royal Antwerp, Galatasaray and Queens Park Rangers striker was first appointed Lobi Stars vice-chairman in 2001.
In his first stint, the club won the FA Cup in 2003, appeared in the finals of the same competition in 2005, 2012 and 2015 and represented Nigeria in the continent.
Iorfa voluntarily resigned from his position in 2016 after spending nearly 14 years in charge of the club.
