Invest in girl-child, parents told

Parents have been advised to invest meaningfully in their girl-child, in line with the United Nations Oganisation (UNO) Sustainable Development Goals.

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu, made the call while speaking during the International Day of the Girl-Child celebration in Awka, the state capital.

She said investing in the education of the girl-child would guarantee their security and future.
The lawmaker counselled parents against early girl-child marriage, adding that they should provide the girl-child with education and training.

Condemning abuses and social vices against the girl-child such as rape and unwanted pregnancy, among others, Maduagwu urged all to join hands with the government to protect female children.
She said the House of Assembly would make laws for the welfare of female children to harness their full potentials.
