A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, has distributed empowerment items including cash worth over N1 million to some widows in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Some of the 10 beneficiaries received cash of N100,000 each, while others received either cash or equipment worth N150,000 each.
The programme was part of the foundation’s activities to commemorate this year’s International Widows Day.
Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Coordinator for Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Dr Muhammad Thanni Muhammad Muktar, said the action was in line with the dictates of Islam.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the gesture so as to liberate themselves from poverty and take good care of their children.
In his lecture, Ustaz Haroon Ahmad Akano said Islam is all encompassing that has made adequate provisions among others for proper care and welfare of the windows.
The beneficiaries promised to make judicious use of the asistance and prayed God to reward members of the Foundation and their donors in multiples.
