The family of late Balarabe Goronyo has donated more than 10,000 exercise and textbooks to indigent pupils at the Premier Waziri Model Primary School.

The event took place on Monday at the school to mark the 2021 International Book Giving Day as well as in remembrance of the progenitor of the family, the late Alhaji Balarabe Goronyo.

Apart from 10,000 exercise books, assorted textbooks on English, Mathematics, Arabic and Islamic Religious Knowledge were also doled out to the benefitting pupils, who were drawn from Nursery one to Primary six.

Speaking at the event, the Wazirin Sokoto,  Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, represented by the Dan Galadiman Waziri, Dr Ahmad Bello Gidadawa, commended the gesture by the family.

Professor Junaidu also called for collective efforts in funding education, saying pupils and students are collective assets of the society.

“All hands should be on deck in ensuring adequate funding for education, at all levels.

“There is population explosion now, globally, coupled with raging economic downturn across the world, hence, more of this lofty gesture should be replicated and emulated by all and sundry,” the retired don urged.

The spokesman of the family, Alhaji Bala Balarabe Goronyo, described education as the elixir of life, adding that “No society develops without education. Education is both formal and informal.

“Instructively, there can be no effective teaching and learning without the requisite books,’’ he said.

The donor, Alhaji Zayyanu Aliyu Balarabe Goronyo, said the  donation of the books was part of other charitable acts being undertaken by the family.

He recalled that the family had recently sponsored free medical outreaches that were successively conducted for indigent residents of Galadanchi and its environs

The headmaster of the school, Alhaji Nasiru Shehu Bazza, lauded the gesture and promised judicious distribution of the books.
