The National Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace (NIFROP) in Nigeria has recommended fasting and prayers as the solution for banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in the country.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, one of the leaders of the group, Bishop Prince Jacob Madaki, said the group also warned religious leaders to avoid using their speeches and sermons to bolster the activities of killers by attempting to politicize the spate of crises in the country.
“This is unhealthy for the peace, security, development and progress of any country. We cannot triumph even in the sight of God by creating or promoting violence through inter-faith conflicts, ethnic supremacy and such other motivations for killings of ourselves,” he said, adding there is need for continuous support for security agencies to be able to route out criminal elements in the country.
He said, “The inspiration and vision we have gotten from God tells us the time has come for all of us to see something greater in the life God has given us freely than the vanities of the earth.”
