The federal government is planning to adopt some specific measures to curb the activities of criminals and bandits from carrying out their heinous acts on schools.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Andrew David Adejo during the 81st Joint Consultative Committee on Education held at the Banquet hall of Adamawa state Government House on Monday.
Mr. Adejo explained that some of the measures include; the drilling of students and teachers on emergency measures, abolition of boarding schools, creation of special security units for schools, installation of CCTV cameras, and the introduction of security studies into the curriculum of various institutions.
“It’s become very pertinent in the light of attacks on our education institutions, kidnapping of innocent children, wards, and even parents and guardians, culminating in an unsettling air of insecurity that threatens our educational systems.”
He said the theme of this year’s meeting, tagged “Strengthening Security and Safety in Nigeria Schools for the Achievement of Education 2030 agenda” is aimed at focusing on most effective means to improve learning outcomes to prevent discriminatory attitudes and behavior, as well as inclusive, equitable safe and healthy schools.
The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who declared the programmme open, said the state government has long realized how important it is to reposition the entire school system in the state.
