The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Prof Noah Yusuf, has said that one of his greatest legacies is institutionalising salat on campus.
Prof. Noah disclosed this during a briefing to mark his fourth anniversary as VC.
He said there was massive improvement in the infrastructure, accreditation of programmes and staff welfare, but that bringing the centre for peace and strategic studies and institutionalising salat on campus were key.
He further said, “When we observed the issue, because of the importance of salat in Islam, we established a salat-compliance committee, not to force, but to appeal to the students.

“Now, during salat periods, except you are not a Muslim, because we have staff and students who are Christians, you must go to the mosque.
“It is so encouraging to see the mosque filled up. This is one of our biggest legacies, and I always say alhamdulillah for using me and my team to achieve it.
“Also, during Jumaat, you see people strolling on campus, with vehicles moving here and there. But that is no longer the case. I pray those coming after me will improve upon these legacies.”
Prof. Yusuf noted that from next session the university would take the issue further to complement parents in the moral and spiritual upbringing of the students.
He said, “Through the university’s Imam and School Orator, Dr Sanusi Lafiagi, we are putting together a dawah team that will be visiting hostels from next session to preach to the students. We know what is happening in Nigeria today and we cannot allow our students to go that way on morality.”
He added that the school would commence its medicine (MBBS) programme during the 2024/2025 academic session following approval by the governing council.
