National President, Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN), Dr. Paul Mamza has called on the Federal Government to explore the areas of polymer science and technology in the bid to diversify the nation’s economy.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during the technical conference/annual general meeting of the institute, Mamza said the sector also has role to play in boosting the economy by re-assessing hidden and non-exploited potentials in the sector.
He said the time has come when Nigeria must move away from a consumer oriented society to a productive one hence polymer science and technology hold the key to open-up new vistas of prosperity.

Speaking at the occasion, a director at the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Zaria, Dr. Amali Ejila said there are claims that about 80 percent of various polymers used in Nigeria were imported.
