The Kano state branch of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria has advocated for the private sector to be allowed to drive sports development in Kano state.

According to the organisation, such support will help in bridging the yawning gap and save the sports sector from possible collapse in the state.

Speaking at the 11th edition of Kano Inter Bankers Cup organised by Black and White Consult, the state chairman of the Institute, Aliyu Wada Nas, said the administration of sports in Kano state when compared with others in the country is not encouraging.

“In places like Lagos, it is the private sector that is driving the sports business. Unfortunately, here in Kano, the reverse is the case.

“If it is not from the government, you don’t see that drive, you don’t see the push.

“The corporate sector in Kano must begin to push and they must begin to push to get the sports sector in Kano driven by the private sector,” he said.
