Institute moves to sanction unlicensed project managers in Nigeria

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria says it is currently setting modalities to ensure that all project managers who are not licensed in the country are sanctioned.

Registrar of CIPMN, Henry Mbadiwe made the disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday at a three-day training and induction event for members with the theme “The Digital Project Manager.”

According to Mbadiwe, “What the institute is doing now is to regulate the sector to ensure that quacks are fished out and sanctioned and there is an establishment law that states if you’re not licensed by CIPMN or not a licensed project manager, you can’t deliver a project in this country or handle any sort of business relating to it.

“What CIPMN is currently doing is partnering with relevant MDAs to ensure that professionals are licensed and regulated so we hold someone responsible when something goes wrong because we can’t continue to have abandoned buildings around with no one held to account,” he said.

He further stated that the purpose of the training is to groom a 21st century crop of professionals that will be in tune with technological advancement and deliver projects in all sectors of the economy.

Also speaking, the President of CIPMN, Prince Akinola Babalola charged the new inductees to embrace the opportunities presented by technological advancement and ensure diligence in handling any project in the country as the Institute’s target is to curb the spread of abandoned projects in the country.
