Institute introduces model shop for farmers in Kano

The International Crops Research for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has revealed that under the Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project  (KSADP), funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB),  a one-stop model shop for farmers has been introduced to directly link real farmers with genuine inputs.

Speaking during the KSADP seed and input fair, 2023, with the title, ‘Linking farmers to quality seed and agro inputs for improve productivity against food insecurity,’ the ICRISAT country representative, Dr Angarawai Ignatius, said the model developed by Syngenta Foundation was aimed at a comprehensive and integrated approach to providing various agricultural services, as well as to support farmers and stakeholders in centralised locations or platforms.

He explained that as part of the KSADP implementation strategy there is an attempt on a major shift from last approaches to the traditional agricultural system to a more modern model that treats farming as a business. He added that the new model would contribute to poverty reduction, as well as strengthen food and nutrition security in the state.
