Institute decries poor patronage of arbitration in Nigeria

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), Shola Oshodi-John, has said arbitration can be deployed to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

He also decried the lack of patronage of in-country arbitration, calling on the government to invest in arbitration matters.

He spoke during a press conference heralding the annual conference for 2024 to commemorate the institute’s 45th anniversary.

The annual conference, investiture and awards ceremony themed, ‘Transformation and Interventions: The Evolving Trends in Arbitration and ADR Practice in Africa’, will take place on the 28-29 of November 2024, in Lagos.

Oshodi-John, in her remarks, stated that the 2024 hybrid conference has been specially designed for participants to delve deeper into the multifaceted dimensions of the transformative journey, exploring new trends, interventions, challenges and pivotal developments shaping arbitration and ADR in Africa today.
