A former dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, University of Ilorin, Prof Yusuf Lanre Badmas, has said it will be suicidal for parents to pull their children out of school because of insecurity, especially in the Northern part of the country.
The former Head Department of Religions Studies appealed to parents not to withdraw their children from school over the situation, adding however that it was high time the federal government suspended boarding schools.
“Many unwilling parents that have sent their children to school may want to back out and withdraw them from school in view of the prevailing insecurity in the region. But that would be disastrous against the backdrop that in the North, we are still struggling to catch up with the South,” he added.
He said the federal and state governments should suspend boarding education and the vigilantes can be deployed to guard the schools.
Badmas, who is the founder of Crescent Islamic Group of Schools and the newly appointed chairman of the Board of Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) also called on Northern governors to work out their own security strategy by pooling together the security votes to strategies and complement the effort of the federal government to stamp out the problem.
