About 1354 National Youth corp members deployed to Borno state have commenced their three-week orientation in Katsina.
Daily Trust reports that after their orientation camp the corp member will then proceed to Borno state for their primary assignments
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the civil defence training college, Katsina, the state Governor Kashim Ibrahim, represented by Permanent Secretary Administration and chairman NYSC governing board, Mahdi Gazzali urged the corp members to do away with all the doomed stories emanating from the state saying that ‘ since the insurgency started no corp member has lost his life.”
He said robust welfare packages await corp members who choose to stay as the state government is paying every corp member additional 10,000 just as nurses and paramedics gets 50,000 while Medical Doctors get 100,000 monthly.
“Don’t think of relocating, Borno is peaceful. You will have a good story to tell after your service year ” he said.
He said the NYSC scheme provides a platform to develop an individual’s great virtues of discipline, industry and patriotism adding that as change agents, the government believes in the scheme in view of its importance in nation building.
‘Borno government has taken various steps through rehabilitation, reconstruction and resettlement programme to address infrastructural inadequacies and decay as a result of insurgency that has nearly cripple the state’ he said.
Earlier, the state’s NYSC coordinator Rabiu Aminu enjoined the corp members to exhibit high level of respect and discipline saying the camping period is filled with activities which needs active participation.
