Southern governors will converge on Lagos today for a meeting on insecurity.
They had earlier met in May in Asaba, Delta Statem where they arrived at a 12-point resolution, including the ban of open grazing of cattle in the region, restructuring, creation of state police and review of revenue allocation formula.
Today’s meeting will be hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja, with all the 17 governors from the region expected to be in attendance
A source told Daily Trust that today’s meeting would discuss insecurity, open grazing, state police, restructuring, true federalism and food security, among others.
It is also expected to review the gains of the last meeting and the next steps to take.
The southern region had witnessed tension in recent times owing to the activities of separatists and secessionists.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra was recently arrested and remanded in the DSS facility.
The residence of the Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, was raided by the secret police, leading to the killing of two and arrest of 13 of his allies.
Some youths in the South-south had also threatened to shut down oil facilities over the delay in the inauguration of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
There were also reported clashes between farmers and herders in the region.
