Insecurity: Presidency begs security agents, media, others to offer solutions

The Presidency on Thursday appealed to security agencies, media practitioners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in the country to help in proffering solutions on how to tackle insecurity in the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari onPolicy Development and Analysis,Ibrahim Bapetel Hassan, who stated this in Abuja during a three-day policy dialogue on security, said the recent happenings in Nigeria call for the review of approach to the issue of national security.

He said, “Our advancement as a nation is dependent on how secured we are as a people. Many concerned Nigerians have continued to proffer solutions that will enhance security of lives and property in addition to restoring strained relationships.

“It is our belief that if some of the solutions proffered are properly harnessed, they will go a long way in contributing to the understanding of the existing security challenges and the way forward,” adding that the aim of the dialogue was to exchange ideas between government and the citizens.

Julius Ogunro, who spoke on behalf of the participants at the dialogue, bemoaned the increasing crime rates in the country, saying the government should strengthen its intelligence gathering and also consider the use of technology in the fight against insecurity.

He added that the use of GPS in locating water for herds, as it’s done in developed nations, in order to reduce the incessant crises between farmers and herders should also be considered.
